REMEMBERING COMMODORE HARRY ANDERSON
American Magic is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Commodore Henry H. “Harry” Anderson, Jr., the 47th Commodore of New York Yacht Club. An untiring leader of our club, our sport, and of a vibrant period of America's Cup racing in Newport, his loss is keenly felt. Our condolences go out to his family and expansive network of friends and fellow sailors.
Commodore Anderson led the New York Yacht Club’s successful defense of the Cup in 1980, which combined his steady leadership, brilliant racing by Dennis Conner and his team onboard FREEDOM, and the innovation of Sparkman and Stephens. We will keep him in our thoughts as we work to win back the Cup in Auckland early next year.
