BARCELONA, Spain, June 23, 2023 – New York Yacht Club American Magic celebrated a significant milestone as they christened their new AC40 yacht, "Magic," at their newly established team base in Barcelona.

Terry Hutchinson, President of Sailing Operations/Skipper for NYYC American Magic, expressed, "Today marks a positive milestone for American Magic. Our second AC40, "Magic," pays tribute to an extraordinary racing schooner yacht that proudly represented the New York Yacht Club and defended the Cup in the 1870 America's Cup. It was aboard this original boat that American sailing first defended the Cup, igniting a passion that has fueled American sailing ever since."

Following the christening, "Magic" embarked on her inaugural sail and commenced training in Barcelona. The session focused on swiftly preparing the boat for on-water sailing, with the team prioritizing operational readiness and initial setup. Their primary goal was to initiate testing of various aspects and start the race training program while ensuring smooth boat functionality and familiarizing themselves with local conditions.

"Our focus today was on getting 'Magic' on the water for the first time and running through its initial paces," said Tom Burnham, NYYC American Magic Coach. “'Magic' performed very well on its first day of sailing, with only a few minor issues to be expected on day one. It has been a great day here in Barcelona."

In the upcoming weeks, "Magic" will be joined by her sister yacht, "America," as the team embarks on two-boat testing and sets their sights on a solid training block in Barcelona ahead of the first Preliminary Regatta of the 37th America's Cup in Vilanova i la Geltrú. The racing is scheduled to take place over four days between September 14th and 17th, 2023.
