PATRIOT IS BACK ON THE WATER
New York Yacht Club American Magic’s AC75, Patriot 2.0, returned to set sail on Pensacola Bay today as the two-year countdown to the 37th America’s Cup begins.
Saturday’s session was the first opportunity for the American Magic Team, helmed by Paul Goodison, Riley Gibbs, and Michael Menninger to practice foiling on home waters since the 36th America’s Cup in New Zealand.
The morning session in Pensacola saw the team complete some foiling testing after two days of systems and structural testing. The team experimented with various setup configurations to better understand the Patriot’s new modifications.
"Today was another step on the team’s path of development. Our ability to learn and develop is critical for the team as we move forward," said Terry Hutchinson, Skipper, and President of Sailing Operations for NYYC American Magic.
"What a great day for the team to finally get Patriot out of the shed and up on the foils," said tactician Andrew Campbell. "We’re looking forward to getting back out on Pensacola Bay early next week.
The 37th America’s Cup will see NYYC American Magic compete against four nations, the defenders, Emirates Team New Zealand, and three challengers: INEOS Britannia [GBR], Alinghi Red Bull Racing [SUI], and Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli [ITA].
New York Yacht Club American Magic will spend all winter in Pensacola, Fl, before relocating to Barcelona for the final push into the 37th America's Cup campaign in 2024. The 37th America's Cup will take place in Barcelona, Spain, in September and October 2024.
